iLabs - Science Lab Report Creation
(with Cloud Support)
Welcome to iLabs, the Android app that helps you create
Science Lab Reports. iLabs lets you create and organize notes during
your science lab and to have all the information you need for a particular lab
at your disposal. Once you are done with your lab notes and have recorded all
your data, including any pictures you took, you can send the data to yourself so
you can edit it on your desktop (most conveniently) and turn it into the perfect
lab report for submission to your science instructor. iLabs is optimized for
Tablets and requires Android 3.1 or higher. It works fine on ICS phones with
Android 4.
Note that any content for iLabs is created and maintained
separately from
this app by instructors for particular courses. The
quality of that content may vary and you need to contact the content provider if
you have questions about particular labs. You or your
instructor could easily add their own content, so that other students can take full
advantage of the program for their own class.
If you have any questions, please check out our
online help. If you still have questions,
please contact 'Bert Wachsmuth' at "wachsmut@shu.edu".
If you like the program, please rate it on the Android marketplace and/or provide
some detailed
feedback
to the developer. If you are an instructor interested in obtaining a
customized version of iLabs for your own institution, or you want to create
(publically available or private) content for the app, please send email to
"wachsmut@shu.edu".
Downloading iLabs
- To download the latest stable version, please download
iLabs from the
Android market. Search for "SHU iLabs" or
a direct link. This is the best and most stable version to try, and is
the recommended version. It is customized for Seton Hall University
(the functionally equivalent generic version of iLabs is available
here).
- To download the most current beta version of iLabs intended for beta testers via "side-loading" only, download the
iLabs.apk file here (if you do not know what
"side-loading" means, you might want to stick with the latest stable version
from the market). Here is a reminder on how to side load an app:
- To experiment with the beta version, please uninstall any previous
versions of iLabs (you will loose any settings you created and possibly
any reports not yet submitted). If you have any trouble with the latest
version, please make sure to first uninstall any previous version.
- Click on the above link to download the apk file (you can either do
that from your Android browser, or from your desktop as long as you move
the apk file to your Android device somehow)
- Tap or double-tap the downloaded apk file on your Android device to install the latest
version of iLabs.
Information
The app is developed by Bert G. Wachsmuth and is supported by the
Teaching
Learning, and Technology Center at Seton Hall University. If you are an
instructor and are interested in providing your own lab content, please contact
Bert Wachsmuth for details. You may also obtain a version of iLab customized for
your institution. For example, the "SHU iLabs" app is a customized version of "iLabs"
for Seton Hall University. Please contact
Bert G. Wachsmuth for details.
iLabs requires the following permissions:
- Full Internet access to load and submit labs and reports
- Permission to modify SD card to store your reports until they
are submitted and deleted
- Modify hardware to take pictures with your phones's camera and
embed them in a report
iLabs is free software and the
source code can be made available upon request. There maybe a charge for
creating customized versions for particular institutions if you are interested.
Again, please contact
Bert G. Wachsmuth
for any details you might be interested in.
